Ofuku Shuzou is located in Nagaoka city, Niigata prefecture, famous for rice production, in Japan. The sake brewery is situated at the foot of the [Echigo Higashiyama] mountain. There is heavy snow in winter, making it a very appropriate place for sake making.
Ofuku Shuzou was founded in September 1898 by Kishi Gorou. Our brand name is [Ofuku Masamune], the name given with the hope that drinkers will be happy.
Kishi Gorou invented a safe, clean, and hygienic method of brewing, and it had become the industrial standard. He later received the [Ouju Houshou] award.
Also following the founder, Mr. Yoshii Tamio, the present head brewer became the 2nd person to receive the [Ouju Houshou] award.
In addition, following the scientific advancement of making sake, Mr. Gorou became famous for writing the first textbook "Joukai Shugyoku" on making sake, and the original scripts are being preserved at a national library.
Presently, our company is building on the technology inherited from our founder. Coupled with the use of natural water (most suited for sake making) and contract farming of specialized rice that does not use chemicals. With these materials, we continue to make high quality sake that ranks among the best in the world.
